When Ansley reached out about senior photos, it didn’t take long to land on the perfect vision. After a quick text exchange, we realized she wanted something that felt urban but vintage, creative yet grounded — a place with some history and room to just be herself. Downtown Glendale was an easy yes. For Ansley, a senior at the Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies, this session wasn’t just about graduating — it was about honoring who she’s become.
I asked Ansley to describe her high school experience in one word, she chose growth. And that word quietly guided the entire session. Over the past four years, she’s grown not only academically but creatively and emotionally — learning who she is, what she values, and how she wants to move through the world. As someone deeply immersed in film, music, and storytelling, Ansley brought a thoughtful, artistic energy to her senior photos. Downtown Glendale’s brick walls, old colorful houses, and historic details mirrored that perfectly, giving her images a timeless, cinematic feel.
Ansley’s personal style played a huge role in shaping her senior photos. She gravitates toward black and red — a bold, classic combination that felt right at home against the urban backdrop. Her love for film and music, from collecting DVDs and CDs to working in DP film, shows up in the way she carries herself: observant, expressive, and intentional. One of her favorite features is her hair, and rightfully so — she’s spent years learning to care for her curls, and they’ve become a symbol of confidence and self-acceptance. My job was simple: create space for her to show up as herself and guide her just enough so the images felt natural, not forced.
What made this senior session even more meaningful was who Ansley chose to include. She brought her boyfriend, Zach, and her mom, Amy — (who has been a steady presence throughout her journey.) Senior photos aren’t just about the graduate; they’re about the relationships that carried them here. Those moments of connection, laughter, and quiet support are what turn a gallery into something lasting. Ansley’s openness and trust made it easy to capture images that feel honest and true.
Ansley plans to study secondary English education after graduation, and it’s hard to imagine a more fitting path for someone so reflective, compassionate, and creative. Her Downtown Glendale senior photos are a celebration of growth — not just of finishing high school, but of becoming. It was an honor to photograph someone I’ve known since was in grade school and to tell this chapter of her story. Ansley, I can’t wait to see where your story takes you next.
