Okay, let’s chat about senior graduation photoshoots. I know it can feel overwhelming when you first start thinking about senior photos—but these are the photos. The ones that stick. The ones families hold onto for years.
I have my grandma’s senior photos. Yup. And while I love a good black-and-white image (and will always be partial to them), these photos are not your grandma’s senior portraits. We don’t take one side-profile photo and call it good anymore. There are outfit changes, movement, laughter, personality—and yes, sometimes nerves.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, that’s totally normal. My goal is to answer the top 5 questions seniors and parents ask me when booking a session, so the only question left is where you’re taking your senior out to dinner afterward.
Let this session be something special. A moment before graduation day chaos. A quiet pause where you talk about what’s next, dreams, plans, and maybe share some sage advice…like remembering to change your underwear. (Important life skills.) 😂
1. What should I wear (and how many outfits should I bring)?
Hands down, this is the most-asked question.
How many outfits are included?
I recommend 3–4 outfits. Want variety without overpacking? Bring layers—jackets, hats, scarves, jewelry—to switch up looks without full changes.
What styles photograph best?
Simple always wins.
- Flowy dresses
- Jeans or pants with a plain or textured top
- Outfits you can move in
Very short skirts or super tight clothing can limit posing (and comfort). If you can’t sit, walk, or laugh comfortably in it—it’ll show.
Casual, dressy, or school-related outfits?
Yes. Yes. And yes.
- Prom dress? Bring it.
- Favorite jeans and tee? Absolutely.
- Thrifted grandma sweater with a pencil skirt? You bet.
- College gear? 100%.
How to coordinate colors & accessories
Stick with neutrals, soft tones, and earthy colors. Add interest with textures (knits, denim, lace) and layers. Accessories should enhance—not distract. And if the shirt screams a brand louder than you do…let’s leave it at home.
💡 Pro Tip: Neutrals, textures, layers—and avoid logos whenever possible.
2. Where will the photos be taken?
Do I choose the location or does the photographer?
We work together. You know what feels like you. I know what lighting works best. When those two things meet—that’s where the magic happens.
Are outdoor or urban locations available?
Yes! And historic, greenery, desert, indoor studio—Arizona gives us options.
Can we do multiple locations?
Yes, as long as they’re close and the lighting works in our favor.
What if the weather is bad?
The good news? We’re in Arizona. “Bad weather” is rare. If it does rain (Phoenix’s famous 1% chance), we’ll reschedule.
💡 Pro Tip: Trust your photographer’s location suggestions—they’re lighting nerds for a reason.
3. How should I prepare the week of the shoot?
This one’s big—and easy.
- Haircuts: Schedule about 1 week before the session
- Skin: Keep it simple—hydrate and moisturize
- Nails: Clean and neutral works best
- Tanning: If you tan, go light and avoid last-minute experiments
- Sleep & water: Drink water, get rest, repeat
What to bring the day of the session
- All outfits + shoes
- Accessories
- Touch-up makeup or hair products
- A good attitude (I’ll handle the rest 😉)
💡 Pro Tip: Preparation = confidence. Confidence photographs beautifully.
4. How long will the session take—and will you help with posing?
How long does a senior session last?
Typically 1–2 hours, depending on the package and locations.
Will you help with posing?
Absolutely. I guide you the entire time.
What if my senior feels awkward or shy?
Totally normal. Everyone starts that way. By the end, most seniors feel like pros—and are shocked by how fun it was.
💡 Pro Tip: You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s my job. And it helps to bring a family member or a friend.
5. When will we get the photos and how do we choose them?
Turnaround time
Your gallery will be ready about 2 weeks after you select your images.
How are images delivered?
Via a ShootProof online gallery—easy to view, choose, and download.
How many photos are included?
That depends on your package. The base package includes 30 images. You can always add more to your gallery.
How does downloading work?
Simple, stress-free, and no tech degree required.
💡 Pro Tip: Clear expectations = happy parents and seniors.
Bonus Questions (Usually from Parents 👀)
Can siblings or pets be included? YES. PLEASE. Bring them.
Are yearbook photos included? I’m happy to snap one—just let me know the requirements ahead of time.
What if we need to reschedule? Life happens. Communication is key. Here’s the quick breakdown from my contract:
- Client Cancellations: 7 days’ notice to cancel, 24 hours to reschedule. Retainers are non-refundable.
- Contractor Cancellations: If I can’t perform, a refund or reschedule will be offered.
- No-Shows: Failure to appear without notice forfeits all payments.
Wrapping It All Up
Senior photos aren’t just about pictures—they’re about marking a moment. A pause before everything changes. A chance to celebrate who your senior is right now.
My job is to make the process easy, relaxed, and maybe even fun (yes, really). Your job? Show up (maybe hope in a photo or two), trust the process, and plan that post-session dinner.
Because years from now, these photos will still matter—and you’ll be so glad you took the time to make them.
Now let’s do this! Book below.
