Izzy’s Golden Hour Lake Pleasant Senior Session | Millennium High School Senior Photos

There are some senior sessions that are beautiful because of the location, and then there are sessions that shine because of the person in front of the camera. Izzy’s senior session was both.

As a Phoenix senior photographer, I have the privilege of photographing some incredible young people, and Izzy is one of those seniors who leaves a lasting impression. A graduating senior from Millennium High School, Izzy has a spirit that is impossible to miss. Her Christ-like kindness, genuine heart, and bubbly personality radiate in every moment—and every single photo reflects that.

Between her love for dance, swimming, and traveling, Izzy brings so much energy and joy wherever she goes. Photographing her for her senior photos was such a full-circle moment for me, as she was one of my Girl Scouts many years ago. Watching her grow into the beautiful young woman she is today made this session even more emotional for me.

Why Lake Pleasant Was the Perfect Location

When it came time to plan her senior session, Izzy knew exactly where she wanted to go: Lake Pleasant Regional Park.

It’s a place she loves spending time with her friends, which made it such a personal and meaningful choice for her lake pleasant senior session.

And honestly? It was perfection.

The combination of the mountain backdrop, sparkling water, sandy beach, and peaceful atmosphere made it the ideal setting. There’s a calmness and beauty about Lake Pleasant that mirrors Izzy’s presence so naturally.

This was my first time shooting there, and it definitely won’t be my last.

For future seniors considering this location: there is a small entrance fee, and I highly recommend scheduling your session on a weekday to avoid crowds. Because the area is so wide open, sunset (or sunrise if you’re brave!) is absolutely the best time to shoot.

Golden Hour Magic

We scheduled Izzy’s session during golden hour, and the weather truly could not have been more perfect.

Arizona sunsets have a way of showing off, and this evening was no exception. The soft golden light reflected beautifully off the water and wrapped everything in that dreamy glow every photographer hopes for.

The only challenge? We lost light faster than expected.

But we moved quickly and intentionally through the location—starting higher up and gradually working our way down to the beach so Izzy had plenty of time for outfit changes while still capturing every look we planned.

Sometimes the best sessions come from simply flowing with the moment, and that’s exactly what we did.

Senior Session Style That Matched Every Scene

Izzy absolutely nailed her outfit choices.

She brought an amazing variety that gave her gallery so much depth and personality:

  • Jeans with a brick-red top and brown shoes
  • Jeans with an NAU crop top
  • A long denim skirt with red shoes, a white top, and denim jacket
  • A stunning white dress with white heels
  • Her purple cap and gown

Each look complemented the scenery in such a unique way.

Her brick-red top popped beautifully against the blue water and sky. The long denim skirt flowed perfectly against the desert backdrop, creating movement and texture in every frame.

And then there was the white dress.

Watching Izzy splash through the water at sunset in that dress was pure magic.

Those images are some of my favorites from the entire gallery.

A Session Filled with Joy

One of the best parts of photographing Izzy was how comfortable and confident she felt throughout the entire shoot.

Because of our connection from Girl Scouts years ago, there was already such trust and ease between us, and it allowed her true personality to shine effortlessly.

She didn’t need professional hair or makeup—her natural beauty speaks for itself.

We captured a mix of candid, posed, editorial, and movement shots, giving her a gallery that feels authentic, fun, and full of life.

When she saw her final images, her reaction said it all:

“My photos are incredible, I seriously love them so much!”

That’s always the goal.

Advice for Future Arizona Seniors

If you’re planning your senior session, here’s my biggest advice: Choose a location that means something to you.

Whether it’s the mountains, a downtown city vibe, a desert field, or a waterfront like Lake Pleasant, the best senior sessions happen when the location reflects who you are.

And bring variety in your outfits.

Mix jeans, dresses, skirts, school spirit wear, and different shoe options to create a gallery with lots of variety and personality.

Most importantly—know that you do not need to know how to pose.

That’s my job.

I’ll guide you every step of the way so your photos feel natural, beautiful, and completely you.

Why I Love Senior Photography

Senior sessions hold such a special place in my heart.

There’s something so exciting about photographing seniors as they stand right on the edge of their next chapter. It’s such a meaningful season—full of anticipation, dreams, and possibility.

And getting to preserve that through photography is something I never take for granted.

Izzy’s session was such a beautiful reminder of exactly why I love what I do.
