Arizona Branding Photographer | Faith-Filled Western Session at Freedom Farms

I love it when sessions just align from the very beginning—and this one with Benny and Becky Ratiu at Freedom Farms was exactly that. Benny’s story is rooted in faith, music, and purpose. Born in Transylvania, Romania, and now based here in the U.S., his journey has always pointed back to one thing—glorifying God through his music. As a husband, father of two, and country western artist creating faith-driven music, his mission is simple and powerful: live free, make good music, and tell people about Jesus. You can feel that the moment you meet him—his love for the Lord is genuine, and it shows in everything he does. Check out Benny’s website here: https://bennyratiu.com/

When we started planning this particular brand session, the vision was clear—lean into ranch life, horses were a must, wide open space, and the natural connection between man, horse and simplicity. Freedom Farms was the perfect fit with its open fields, mountain views, and that one gorgeous tree that seems to frame everything just right. We timed the session for golden hour, and that warm Arizona glow brought everything together in the most effortless way. It felt calm, grounded, and exactly like Benny’s brand—easygoing, authentic, and God-inspired.

The details of this shoot made it even more special. Benny and his wife Becky showed up in full western style—cowboy hats, boots, and the kind of presence that just fits the setting naturally. Becky also made the most beautiful flower wreath for one of the horses, which added such a soft, meaningful touch. We had the sweetest horses with us—Mable, a gentle retired cutting mare with the kindest soul, and Chewie, a playful retired therapy horse who brought so much personality to the session. (learn more about the animals at Freedom Farms here: Freedom Farms AZ) Watching Benny and Becky connect with them felt completely organic, like it was always meant to be part of his story.

One of my favorite moments was when Benny wanted to get shots riding. Chewie was still warming up to that idea, but something just clicked—and she trusted him.  Those are the moments you can’t plan, but they end up being the most powerful.

Of course, not everything went perfectly (because it never does). The sun was a little brighter than I typically prefer when we started, and Mama D the donkey was very determined to make a guest appearance. (If you are ready to book your session with Mama D at Freedom Farms I’m excited to see her and you behind my lens – just click here to get started.) Then the storm clouds from the north made an appearance, but honestly, that’s part of the magic. We leaned into the light—it actually enhanced that cowboy, country feel—and with a little help from my amazing husband and the incredible farm owner, Nicole, we kept things running smoothly while still honoring the heart of the space.

From a photography standpoint, this session was all about capturing connection over perfection. Instead of focusing on a strict shot list or structured marketing poses, we leaned into real moments—Benny with the horses, Benny with Becky, and the quiet in-between moments that tell a deeper story. That’s what lifestyle branding photography is all about. (Want to hear Benny on YouTube? Click here.) Whether you’re a musician, entrepreneur, or small business owner, your audience connects with authenticity. As a photographer who is finding love in branding photography here in west phoenix, I always aim to create images that feel like you—not just what you do, but who you are.

What I loved most about this session was just that—how real it felt. As a small business owner myself, I understand how much heart goes into building something meaningful, and it’s such an honor to capture that for others. Benny and Becky trusted the process completely (this was their fourth session with me!), and that trust shows in the final gallery. The fact that they’re already planning a family session this fall back at Freedom Farms says everything.
