Love Through the Lens: Getting Ready for Your Couples Love Story Photoshoot

Couples Photoshoot

I was very intentional in the wording I used for a “couples photoshoot” as a “couples love story”. I have been married for almost 20 years now and it is our desire to replicate the amazing love story my grandparents had for 70+ years. A “couples photoshoot” would not do us justice and it won’t for you either. My husband and I are writing a beautiful love story every day and so are you! But what does this look like in a photoshoot? It is a documentary style shoot for just the two of you; to capture the true love you have for each other. Each photoshoot will be unique to the love you share for each other and it is my desire to put those feelings in digital print for you. If you get done reading this blog and have any questions feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

Before Your Couples Love Story Photoshoot

  • Pick out the date, time, location, package and clothes.
    • Phoenix, AZ’s west valley offers some beautiful locations to spotlight a love story. Check out this blog on Picking an Outdoor Phoenix, AZ Photoshoot Location. But honestly, the places for this type of photoshoot should be personal to you and your partner. A place that evokes a memory or an experience.
  • Of everything mentioned above, picking out clothing is usually what can cause anxiety so here are a few quick tips.
    • Pick out things that are comfortable. Things that you can move in, sit in, walk in, run in, maybe even lay down in.
    • Neutrals with a pop of color photograph best for documentary style shoot. The purpose of this photoshoot is to capture your love so, your outfits should highlight you and your lover, not distract from the main event (you two!). With that being said two of my favorite couples had very different styles and outfits that fly in the face of what I recommended. One in all black, no color pop at all and the other couple in bright cheery colors that jump right out of the screen. Ultimately you know what you love.
    • If you need some help, check out your local boutiques for women’s clothing with helpful associates. One in Phoenix, AZ’s west valley is Arie Lane. They have some super cute outfits and friendly, helpful staff. Once you have your outfit you can then pick out your significant other’s outfit to flow seamlessly with yours.
    • You can check out Pinterest to give you some “pinterestation” to see if you have anything currently in your closet that will give you the vibe you are wanting to celebrate your love story in.

  • Once you book with me you will receive a Couples Welcome Guide to give you more information on picking out clothes and a survey so I can best capture your love story. Also, be on the look for the next blog about “Love Through The Lens: Getting Ready for Your Couples Love Story Photoshoot Part II”. This blog will go into more detail about mentally preparing for a couple’s photoshoot; with prompts to help bring to life your love story in digital print.

During Your Couples Love Story Photoshoot

  • Arrive about 5-10 minutes early.
  • Expect to be a little (or sometimes a lot) nervous when we first get started but then let the fun, handholding, whispers, snuggles, emotions, kissing, hugs, laughter and intimacy come out.
  • Relax and be in the moment with the person you love. Your focus will be on each other and not on the camera. There will be some posing but mostly prompts to get you both to interact naturally.

  • Within 2 weeks you will receive an email with a link to your gallery.
  • You can choose your photos and will be able to download them directly from the gallery.
  • You can then share and print your photos.

I love being able to record couples’ amazing love stories here in the beautiful Arizona desert! So many times, the intimate closeness we have as couples is never truly captured and lives on only in our memories so having the opportunity to have those little moments frozen in time is priceless, not only for you but for future generations.
