It’s hard to believe that it’s already been two years since I captured Sadie’s senior photos. Time flies, especially when you’re fortunate enough to photograph someone so unique. This session remains one of my favorites—not just because of the stunning images we created, but because of the connection we shared throughout the shoot. Sadie has always been one of those people who leaves a lasting impression. She’s confident in a way most 18-year-olds haven’t even begun to understand, and her introspective nature makes her such an interesting and refreshing person to be around. As I look back on this session, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of pride for her and all she’s already accomplished.

When Sadie and I first talked about her sweet 16 photos, she shared that she wanted something bold and raw—graffiti that represented the messiness of real life. At just 16, she had such insight into the world around her, and her words still stick with me: “I love downtown graffiti because it’s messy, just like life.” Those words show a maturity and a depth that I believe will continue to shape the way she moves through life. We started at her childhood grade school, where she brought along her sister, best friend, and even her dog. There’s something truly special about capturing someone’s roots and the people who helped shape them. The energy was perfect right from the start.
While we had originally planned to shoot by the Science Center—famous for its dreamy light—it was a little crowded that weekend. No worries though, we quickly found some nearby spots and dove into the fun. I absolutely loved how we played with shadows and how Sadie’s vibe meshed so well with the gritty, authentic backdrop of downtown. The photos that came out of that spot were some of my favorites. And, of course, she wore a striking red dress for the shots at the graffiti house as the bold backdrop. I know it was a nod to her mom, and that sentiment made the photos even more meaningful. Her style—dark and moody but with a total vintage hint—really came through in those first few photos near the Science Center. I was blown away by how effortlessly she owned her look and the vibe.

As I look back on Sadie’s senior session, I’m reminded of how powerful it is to capture a moment in time. These photos aren’t just about the clothes or the location—they represent a part of Sadie’s journey, her growth, and her ability to embrace the messy, real parts of life. I’m so grateful that I’ve had the privilege to photograph someone who inspires me every time I’m around her. Sadie, you’ve always been an old soul with a bright future, and I can’t wait to see where life takes you. Keep embracing the chaos, the beauty, and the realness of it all. The world needs more people like you.
